As a distributor of biometric time clock software, we are always interested in the latest uses for this unique technology. In new fingerprint technology news, Canadian and U.S. security officials are hoping to improve border security through fingerprint and retina scanning.

According to a new CBC News article, security officials have begun considering the use of fingerprint and retina scanning for those crossing the borders between Windsor, Ontario and Detroit, Michigan. Officials conducted a U.S and Canada Border Conference to outline the new technology, explain how it works and elaborate on how it would improve border security for both countries. The technology would be installed in congruence with a new cross-border bridge that is set to go up in 2020 and will connect west Windsor with Detroit.

A spokesperson for the the U.S Customers and Border Protection department gave the following statement. “First of all, we’d like to be able to have the infrastructure to share data across the bridge more quickly.” He went on to say that he has been in communication with the Michigan Department of Transportation about possible waves to wire the bridge for more efficient communication abilities. First order of business? Eliminating paperwork. Officials spotlighted the push toward a move to mobile apps, self serving booths and new fingerprint and retina scanning technology as a way to eliminate paper trails and time wasting.
